I was about 15 years old and about to audition for the guitarist spot with the Pok' Chop Band. I hand my Hollywood Harmony guitar covered in black, red and green Swede. I knew my playing ability could get me the job, but I was nervous because, Eddie Smith, a veteran player was also in line for the job. I was hanging Outside on the steps which lead to the basement, where the band rehearsed, when Doug, Michael Wells and I think Harold Sargent came by and hung out for a little while. Doug borrowed my guitar started playing the melody line to a Funkadelic tune, then he gave it back, and listened as I played some chords to, I think it was, a New Birth song. He listened, then said don't worry, you'll get the job.
Well I worried, but he was right, I did get the job.
